Site to go offline for some time

Dear all -

We had a boards.ie Board of Directors meeting yesterday, and the issue of the Boards Group set of site was brought up for discussion.

Due to the fact that this site is running on an out-of-date server, the decision was made to turn off public access to this site until such time as we have been able to import all posts from this site into boards.ie. This may take some weeks.

The plan is to redirect all domains to a temporary area on boards.ie until such time as the migration is complete.

I know that this will have a negative effect on the various communities present here - being offline for some weeks - but we will endeavour to get things up and running as soon as possible (part of the reason for the weeks as opposed to days estimate is that I am heading to the US next week and will be unavailable to perform the migration). However I hope you will understand from a security point of view that this is necessary.

Indeed, I wake each morning to a barrage of Spam to delete and spammers to ban but they keep coming back There's only two of us (that are active on the site) at the moment with site-wide privileges at the moment. Maybe the boards.ie Admins will also be able to ban spammers here :shrugs:

Ya mean you and BMS, or is there another admin I've overlooked? I'm hoping that when they merge everything they upgrade system, and implement some of the newer board anti-spam integrations. Hopefully spammers will have a more difficult time spamming with bots if the system does a better job of filtering them out, keeping them from even creating a username to post.

I'm visiting UMBC for a few weeks - actually back in Ireland for a few days trying to stay on US time (?) but back in the US on Sunday...

Any update on this John? All I'm doing here is swooping in and sweeping up spam every few days.

The announcement that the site will be going offline was a long time ago and it kind of killed off what was a slight resurgence in posts since the original downtime from what was boards.org.uk.

Hopefully it will be staying up,we dont want to lose quality! (There is nothing better than the version of VBB the site is on now)
